Depending on the element type, you should be able to set values for surface tractions (shear and normal stresses).

Welcome to the forum--

It sounds to me like you probably have some rigid body motion in your model.  Something is likely taking off in space to infinity due to the applied force.  It would have been held in place in displacement control.

You should be able to check by loading what results you have into a post processor--either ABAQUS CAE itself or something like Hypermesh.

That is all I can think of based on your description.

take care,

If nothing else, you could probably extract this information through scripting.

Dear all
How do you simulate air cooling and water cooling(quenching) in Abaqus?
(i) How to set up loading/boundary conditions for air cooling and water cooling heat treatment model simulation?
(ii) How to apply loads or boundary conditions? Do we use interface conditions such as heat transfer coefficient(HTC) and surface film condition or predefined field?
Please help me to do this simulation in ABAQUS.

Hi, it is very slow here and pretty much just me for now.  ABAQUS by itself is not good for working on phase changes in materials, so I do not think that you will have anything meaningful from a heat transfer simulation if your goal is to model quenching.

That said, I have a basic video on heat transfer on youtube (that might have brought you here).

take care,
MEB

1070 steel hysteresis loops as used in my dissertation; data from Yanyao Jiang, at UIUC at the time.

I think if your nodes are on the surface, relatively equally spaced and not on a source, then the nodal temps should be fine.

There may be surface averaging options in ABAQUS, but I am not familiar with them.

I will suggest you read through the theory and examples manuals to see if there is more information.

make sure that the node set is being written to the ODB
check the name of the set and name of the part

otherwise, I don't know what the issue could be from that information.

Thanks,

Hi Wahid,

It should be very similar to the nodal temperature writer.  However, the heat flux is probably a vector (represented as a tuple).

Hi Wahid,

It is pretty quiet around here, and my hopes that there would be a lot of other people that would stop by and contribute have not materialized, so thanks for stopping by.

Yes, you should be able to do this.  In one of my videos I talk about how to edit the replay file (rpy) to do automated processing.  Basically, every button press you make is saved to this file.  You can edit it for new file names that you import into the predefined field.

I am sorry, but I do not recall which video it is, and that is the extent of the help I can offer at this time.

Take care!
