I am running a FEA on a hip joint model where a femur is sitting in the hip socket but the range of motion in the socket is not restricted by ligaments. There's a contact surface between the femoral head and the socket and the model has multiple materials throughout but the actual surface contacts are the same material. I've worked through multiple errors and warning messages before this to try to make it work. First error occurred from improper boundary conditions being applied to a multi-material object. Once, this worked and I was no longer receiving an error for this I had to fix a warning message that was showing up regarding my bulk modulus, this resulted from me trying to model with hyper-elastic properties. I found that the only way to get it to work was to run the model as an elastic model but with my original hyper-elastic properties. Note, all of these previous models were run with a boundary condition/ displacement applied not a force. Finally, when I ran displacement tested model with a force instead, the analysis would fail with no additional warning messages the only thing it noted was that the solution was diverging and was unlikely to converge. Any guidance and help is very appreciated, thank you in advance.

If nothing else, you could probably extract this information through scripting.

The moving session coordinate system follows the motion of the deformed body in ODB results. Once the coordinate system is attached to a reference point, I could not find any option to select it from GUI to explore its further usage. I think there must be a way to select the axes of the system through the PYTHON script. It would be extremely helpful if anyone could share some information regarding this.

Dear all
How do you simulate air cooling and water cooling(quenching) in Abaqus?
(i) How to set up loading/boundary conditions for air cooling and water cooling heat treatment model simulation?
(ii) How to apply loads or boundary conditions? Do we use interface conditions such as heat transfer coefficient(HTC) and surface film condition or predefined field?
Please help me to do this simulation in ABAQUS.

Hi, it is very slow here and pretty much just me for now.  ABAQUS by itself is not good for working on phase changes in materials, so I do not think that you will have anything meaningful from a heat transfer simulation if your goal is to model quenching.

That said, I have a basic video on heat transfer on youtube (that might have brought you here).

take care,
MEB

Dear all.
I am new to ABAQUS. How to predict residual stress in hot rolled steel beams due to water quenching and ambient air conditions?

I think if your nodes are on the surface, relatively equally spaced and not on a source, then the nodal temps should be fine.

There may be surface averaging options in ABAQUS, but I am not familiar with them.

I will suggest you read through the theory and examples manuals to see if there is more information.

Hello,

I have a question about how finding surface average temperature on Abaqus.

I computed a heat transfer model on Abaqus, and I would like to calculate the average temperature of a surface for example.
I think that the mean temperature is not simply the mean of the nodes temperatures.

Can you help me to find the best method.

Thank you
